Most of us associate hair loss with the male sex; however, hair loss and thinning commonly occur in women, particularly those aged 40 and over. Better Not Younger is a haircare brand founded by Sonsoles Gonzalez after she began to experience these symptoms herself.
She found that few brands were offering effective hair products for mature women. The brand aims to celebrate the changes that the female body goes through as it gets older and restores health, nutrients and volume to tired tresses.
Women may experience thinning and scalp dryness due to hormone shifts, genetics, nutritional reasons or damage from years of heat and chemical treatments.
Whatever the reason, thinning does not need to be irreversible. We checked out three of Better Not Younger's best-selling hair care products to see how much of a difference they really make. Continue reading for our in-depth Better Not Younger review and decide if it is the next hair solution for you!
First up, we tested Better Not Younger's best-selling hair and scalp serum. This little 60ml bottle carries a pretty premium price tag; however, the reviews and sales speak for themselves.
This product has proved hugely popular with women experiencing hair shedding, thinning patches and general dryness. So what does it do exactly?
After using Super Power Fortifying Hair and Scalp Serum for a total of 8 weeks, we found that it had successfully soothed and nourished the scalp and that hair looked visibly healthier and stronger.
We experienced a reduction in hair fall and noticed far less shedding during showers and after brushing. Best of all, we found that, unlike other serums, this did not cause hair to become greasy between washes but left it light and oil-free.
The only downside that we could find was that the bottle only lasted four weeks, whereas the effects did not fully show until eight weeks.
To get the full benefit of this product you have to buy it twice. However, it is well worth the money for the extra confidence and shine that it achieves.
All the Super Power Fortifying Hair and Scalp Serum ingredients are cruelty-free, sulfate-free, and paraben-free. This is great, as it means this product is suitable for all hair types.
Its active ingredients are all-natural, and each contributes to the amazing results. The active ingredients include:
Step 1:
Push down on the cap to fill the dropper. One dropper is enough serum to treat the entire head and scalp.
Step 2: Beginning in the center parting, place a drop of serum every 2-3 inches apart, in a row from front to back of the head. The serum should be applied to towel-dried or dry hair but not on wet hair.
Then repeat this at even intervals over the sides of the head until the serum is distributed over the entire scalp. Focus on areas where thinning is visible.
Step 3: Massage the serum delicately into your head for between 2-3 minutes, using your fingertips in small circular motions.
Step 4: Repeat this once daily, either in the morning or night. You do not need to rinse or wash it off as the serum's effectiveness improves the longer you leave it on!
Next up, we tested Better Not Younger's Volumizing Shampoo, which has been flying off the shelves in recent years.
This shampoo has a mid to high price tag; however, it is best when used in tandem with the Better Not Younger Volumizing Conditioner (more on this in a mo), so you should factor that into your costs.
As every woman surely wants fuller, more voluminous locks, it is no wonder this shampoo is selling so well. But what does it do?
We noticed the effects of this Volumizing Shampoo after just three washes. It felt very lightweight and silky when applied, rather than claggy, and it rubbed up into a lovely lather easily.
Unlike some shampoos, this Better Not Younger shampoo did not make hair feel brittle and starched but actually created a hydrated, glossy texture, even before conditioner was added.
We noticed far less hair falling out as we washed it, which was good news for the plughole!
Once dried, the hair looked visibly thicker and far fewer split ends broke off during drying. Hair was left feeling clean (but definitely not squeaky).
Like the ingredients in the fortifying serum, all the ingredients in Better Not Younger's shampoo are cruelty-free, sulfate-free, paraben-free and vegan, meaning this product can be used with a clear conscience.
Better still, the mixture is absolutely fine to use on chemically colored and treated hair. So you can use this product whether you color your roots or embrace your greys.
The formula is clinically proven to reduce breakage by 95%, and since it is so lightweight, it rebalances the natural oils on the scalp without stripping the scalp of moisture. Active ingredients include:
Step 1: Apply to wet hair by gently massaging a small blob into the scalp until it creates a bubbly lather and covers all the hair
Step 2: Rinse well until all the bubbles are gone, and the water runs clear
Step 3. Follow with Wake Up Call Volumizing Conditioner
Step 4: Everyone is different, and you will know your hair better than anyone, but we suggest repeating 2-3 times a week for best results.

Having checked out the Volumizing Shampoo, it only felt right to finish with a look at the Better Not Younger Volumizing Conditioner.
This product is specifically designed for those with thin, fine hair, as it boasts that it does not weigh down hair but instead leaves it feeling full of body, healthy and shiny. It sounds too good to be true. So, how did it do?
We absolutely loved this product. When used in partnership with Better Not Younger's Volumizing Shampoo, it showed results almost immediately and left hair feeling hydrated, volumized and much stronger.
Better still was how much more glossy and seek hair felt without feeling heavy and greasy at all. So many conditioners cause your hair to look oily, but that is certainly not the case with this one.
Instead, our hair became much more manageable thanks to reduced flyaways and frizz, so styling was easy and fuss-free. The finished effect was glossy and healthy-looking, much like the hair we knew in our youth.
As with all Better Not Younger products, the Volumizing Conditioner is cruelty-free, meaning no animal testing was carried out in its development. It is a great ethical choice as it is also vegan, sulfate-free and paraben-free.
Thankfully, the formula is entirely safe to use on colored and chemically treated hair, so even if you like to cover your greys, you can still feel the benefits of this conditioner.
It is clinically proven to prevent 95% of hair breakage and strengthen hair through its mix of vital nutrients. Scalp health is also improved thanks to the vitamins and minerals, which rebalance natural oils and soothed dryness. Active ingredients include:
Step 1: After shampooing, remove any excess water by gently twisting long hair or squeezing short hair
Step 2: Take a coin-sized amount of conditioner in your palm and delicately massage it into your hair by dragging it through the entire length. Concentrate on the mid-length and tips.
Step 3: Leave for 1-2 mins to process. On days when hair feels particularly dry, you can leave for longer.
Step 4: Rinse thoroughly until the water runs clear
Step 5: Use every time you shampoo your hair (usually 2-3 times a week)
The three Better Not Younger products that we tested really did wonders for our hair and scalp health. We recommend this brand if you feel self-conscious about thinning hair, particularly the Fortifying Hair and Scalp Serum.
It isn't suitable for treating male baldness as the ingredients are specific to the causes of female shedding and thinning; however, it is great for women experiencing postpartum baldness and thinning. Is Better Not Younger expensive?... Sure.
But is it worth every penny?... Absolutely!
